Wearing pink doesn’t necessarily mean getting comfortable with your feminine side. Pink, according to menswear brand Siblings’ latest collection, is the order of the day, the colour men need to pick up and pique. So what: a little bit of old school charm mixed up with some punk; a stiff quiff of pink hair worn with a fluffy, frothy sweater in shades reminiscent of OPI’s lacquer. Siblings’ collection was experimental and playful but here Instep takes a look at some Pakistani men who have been just as comfortable when wearing a bubble gum blush…

Kami is more than comfortable in a pale pink shirt and shorts but then he’s a designer who’s always ready to push the creative envelope. "Nobody - man, child, animal - can look bad in pink," he says, "and a pale, icy pink looks very good on men. I don’t even think it’s daring because it’s just very attractive. I’d even wear a shocking pink kurta at a friend’s mehndi but perhaps not a shocking pink suit. In fact, a deep cranberry suit or a fuchsia tweed could make a very interesting suit too. But the easiest way for a man to wear pink is pale pink."

This young designer has a refreshing sense of style, one that circles the outside edge of kitsch without being ribald or unnecessarily rebellious. He’s walked out in almost all colours over the last few years but this royal pink sherwani, worn at the PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week, caught the eye immediately. Would you dare to wear a pink sherwani to your wedding?

He’s not flamboyant but the Creative Director of Kayseria, Waleed Zaman, is extremely comfortable with colour, as he’s proven with his surprising wardrobe choices over the years. Hot pink pants would otherwise belong to a John Galliano runway but Zaman pairs his down with a black kurta and basic khussas. Complementing his wife, Fatima’s pink kurta, we think he paints a very  inspiring picture.

Nomi Ansari

He isn’t called the King of Colour for nothing! If there’s one designer with a penchant for the rainbow, it’s Nomi Ansari and we don’t think there’s a colour under the sun that he’d shy away from. Weddings bring out the quirkiest in Nomi (as do fashion events) and he can be seen here, rocking a sparkling pink kurta (with a purple waistcoat and red pocket square, nothing less) at his sister’s mehndi. Now that’s a trend we wouldn’t mind seeing more of!

Ali Safina

The DJ/actor is seen here at a Fashion Pakistan Week afterparty with his wife, Hira Tareen. And true to form, Ali’s pumping up the quirk with a hot pink feathery fur wrap. Not advisable for a lunch at the Polo Lounge, Ali shows that pink is a great way to connect with your fun side, when need be!
