Breathing new life to this age-old trope is the Sadqay Tumhare team, which transports us to the ’80s era in rural Punjab, and we are hooked. Instep crowns the newest Romeo in town Adnan Malik and the evergreen Mahira Khan as this week’s Hotsteppers for their sweet, pure, ‘awww’-inspiring chemistry that has finally succeeded in unseating the ‘Ashir-Khirad’ duo from the throne of the ideal jora on TV.

In contrast to the shrinking violets who we’ve had enough on television, the lovely, soft-hearted Shanno is downright feisty when she needs to be, making her the ultimate role model for girls watching at home. There wasn’t a soul who didn’t let out a triumphant ‘YES!’ when she refused to be emotionally blackmailed into submission and boldly declared that her heart belonged to Khalil alone to her Nani jaan. Mahira does away with the goody-goody nature of her former avatar, and plays this spirited character to perfection.

And Adnan Malik brings a refreshing ruggedness to the image of the debonair wooer. We wait with bated breath for the inevitable face-off between Khalil and Fayyaz, that brutish other cousin of Shanno’s who’s dying to marry her.
