We have picked nine items on Pakistan’s "to-do list" that we all must agree on

Editorial

The events of past few weeks have confused everyone. Do we need this constitution which discriminates and remains dormant, unimplemented, even if partly? Is the parliament rigged and, therefore, illegitimate? Do the streets decide which political system the country shall have?

How does one make sense of things in the din around? Perhaps by thinking and thinking hard. Where did we go wrong? Does Pakistan as a state need a consensus of sorts on at least some things? A priority list so to speak. And what shall that be?

We at The News on Sunday picked on nine items on Pakistan’s "to-do list". Here they are in no order of priority -- constitution, parliament, role of armed forces, nuclear programme, education, population control, welfare state, independent election commission and tolerance. Irrespective of which party is in power, this is what we must all agree on. That’s the road to progress for us as a people.

In today’s Special Report, we discuss the nitty gritty of these nine consensus goals.
