HOT STEPPER of the week

Saad Haroon

Actor, writer and comedian extraordinaire, not to mention the man behind Pakistan’s first improvisational comedy troupe Blackfish, Saad Haroon is our Hotstepper of the week. Here’s why…

Saad has been on a funny bone tickling spree since 2003, and that’s put him in the running for The Funniest Person in the World title, awarded by ‘world famous’ Laugh Factory comedy club in America. Judging by the vote count in the middle of this week, it looks like Saad is sure to bag a spot in the top twenty list! That brings him one step closer to jetting off to Hollywood, to perform in front of comic legends in America!

Saad has channelled his passion for comedy in a number of ways. He enthralled us with The Real News, the first English-language satirical comedy show on TV. Sparing no one, the show poked fun at everything, from the Karachi Stock Exchange to the film industry in Pakistan. The Real News made it easy and fun to laugh at ourselves. That’s comedy coming from the greats, folks!

Well before that, Saad had us rolling in the aisles with guffaw-inducing stage performances with his Blackfish troupe. He next founded Shark, another comedy troupe, only this one sailed across the country in Pakistan’s first country-wide comedy tour. Then, there was also his solo  Saad Haroon: Very live! tour, which was also filmed and made into a TV show, including interviews with Pakistan’s top comedians including Anwer Maqsood, Behroz Sabzwari, Faisal Qureshi and Bushra Ansari.

Committed to the cause of eliciting chuckles and issuing smart, witty comment, Saad’s convinced us that he’s the funniest of them all. We just have to wait for the rest of the world to catch up.
