Finding your centre

There is this thing that dance teachers teach in their first lesson. It is about finding your centre. They say that in dancing your centre is your stomach. Once you get to know how to control your centre only then will you be able to build other dance moves around it.

I think it is applicable on life, too. The idea of finding your center is so central to human life that it, sometimes, knocks the breath out of me. Why? Firstly, because if you do not know your centre then your actions take up a random reason behind them.

Secondly, and simply put, you feel drained. It is important to know what you stand for, why you are doing the things you do every day. That’s where the centre helps. It keeps you zoomed in on the ‘important thing’ (as per your own definition).

But what is this ‘centre’ business I am bragging about? I have discovered that a centre is a pivot around which you revolve. For some individuals it could be themselves or their family or parents. And, to some, it is God.

The idea of praying, I believe, works on similar lines. It keeps the worshipper focused because no matter in whichever part of the world he or she might be, the worshipping centre remains the same.

I have seen people dance and several times I realised there was something missing. No critic here, though, I admit. But I can tell if someone is ‘feeling’ the dance that they dance. If this element goes missing then the whole performance falls flat.

It is like the dancer has to make his audience feel with him what he is feeling while dancing. If he feels nothing then the audience would follow in his lead.

For feelings to come it is important to know the point around which you build your moves. We are back to square one, ladies and gentlemen.

The idea is applicable on science as well. Atom is the most basic unit of matter and it follows a similar trend. Within an atom, the nucleus is the core around which the electrons revolve. Had it not been for the nucleus the electrons would simply go hither and thither and there would be chaos in the world, considering that the most basic unit does not know its centre. There would be no ion formations, no chemical reactions and no chemical creations within the world. A sad world indeed that would be!

The point is to go out and find the centre. It could take ages. It could take forever. But finding it should help, because otherwise there would be stunted human elevation and simply no great dance performances!
