Rizwan vs Rudra: The fight that could take Pakistan to the UFC

After a historic run at the IMMAF World Championships in Georgia, the Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PAKMMAF) now turns its focus to Dubai, where Pakistan’s top undefeated fighter Rizwan Ali (11–0) will take on India’s former UFC prospect Rana Rudra Singh in what’s being billed as the showdown of the year.

The event will take place on 23rd October at The Agenda Arena, Dubai, under the banner of ACA, the largest Russian MMA promotion owned by the President of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. The promotion is known worldwide for hosting elite-level fighters and producing global champions.

This Pakistan-India clash is being promoted as a fight bigger than the Super Bowl. With a combined audience potential of more than 1.7 billion people, the bout holds enormous significance for the subcontinent. Cricket has long been the emotional battlefield between the two nations, but MMA has now become its fiercest frontier, faster, rawer, and far more unpredictable.

While India has poured millions into developing its MMA scene, with Bollywood royalty backing promotions and fighters, results have told a different story. Over the last year, Pakistan has won all ten Indo-Pak MMA contests, including three highlight-reel knockouts by Rizwan Ali himself. The dominance has shifted regional momentum firmly in Pakistan’s favour, and the Dubai showdown is set to define the next chapter of this rivalry.

Rizwan’s rise marks a defining moment for Pakistan’s combat sports. Once considered underground, MMA in Pakistan has evolved into a national movement. Under structured leadership, the Pakistan MMA Federation has built a complete athlete development pathway, from grassroots amateur championships to professional global contracts, transforming passion into opportunity and establishing Pakistan as a serious force on the world stage.

In Rizwan’s corner stands Omar Ahmed, President of the Pakistan MMA Federation and CEO of Brave Gym. Ahmed, who has personally managed Rizwan’s journey, has been instrumental in shaping his professional growth, from building his brand and securing sponsorships to positioning him internationally.

Ahmed has made it his life’s pursuit to bring Pakistan its first UFC fighter, a move he believes would redefine the nation’s sporting identity. His work has already drawn international attention: senior UFC officials will be attending the Dubai event to evaluate Rizwan’s performance and potential fit for the world’s premier MMA platform.

The UFC, one of the most followed sports organisations globally, is reportedly exploring an official Pakistan–India clash between Rizwan Ali and India’s UFC athlete Anshul Jubli, a concept Ahmed has been championing to create a new era of South Asian representation in world MMA.

The stakes could not be higher. A victory for Rizwan could catapult him straight into the UFC, making him the first Pakistani to do so. A win for Rana, on the other hand, would make him a superstar in India, avenging a string of national defeats and rebalancing a fierce sporting rivalry.

Regardless of outcome, this fight will define a generation of South Asian combat sports and it signals that the days of Pakistan and India meeting only on the cricket field are over. The cage has now become the new arena of pride, power, and legacy.
