Two-time Academy Award winner Shar-meen Obaid-Chinoy has been nominated for the documentary Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge at the 46th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
The film, co-directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton, is nominated in the category of Outstanding Business and Economic Documentary. Placing yet another Emmy nomination under her belt, this brings Obaid-Chinoy’s total nominations to an impressive 13, with 5 wins.
The documentary provides an in-depth portrait of the fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg, showcasing her journey from the launch of her iconic wrap dress in 1974 to building a multimillion-dollar empire in a traditionally male-dominated world. Archival footage and personal interviews provide insight into Furstenberg’s resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.
The documentary, a partnership between Sutter Road Picture Company and Fabiola Beracasa Beckman Media Production, made its festival premiere as the opening night selection at the 2024 Tribeca Festival before finding a streaming platform on Hulu.
The film received an array of fantastic reviews at home and abroad, and was bestowed with Cinema for Peace Dove Award for Women’s Empowerment.
The 46th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awa-rds will be presented over two nights at the Palladium Times Square in New York City; the News categories on June 25 and the Documentary categories on June 26, 2025. Both ceremonies will be streamed live on the official Emmys platform.
