uperstars Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed are coming back to the big screen after 10 years with the upcoming romantic comedy Love Guru, which is slated for release on Eidul Azha 2025. The newly released trailer gives us a glimpse of the romance, comedy, and overall mischievous energy and feel-good factor this film seems to embody.
Love Guru marks Mahira Khan’s return to the big screen after a three-year absence following her role in the massive hit The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022). Love Guru reunites her with Humayun Saeed, with whom she was last seen in Bin Roye in 2015. Their on-screen chemistry has long been celebrated by fans, which should work in the film’s favour. What also works in this film’s favour is the combination of Humayun Saeed with director Nadeem Baig and writer Vasay Chaudhary (who have succeeded in entertaining audiences in the past with the Jawani Phir Nahi Aani franchise).
As for the story, Saeed’s character plays the role of a self-proclaimed “love guru” whose romantic philosophy doesn’t work in his favour when it comes down to his own unfolding interest.
Mahira Khan will play the role of an architect whose plans for an arranged marriage upend Saeed’s carefully curated playbook. What you end up with—according to the trailer—is a delicious mix of chaotic hilarity.
The movie features a rich ensemble cast including Sohai Ali Abro, Momina Iqbal, Mira Sethi, Ammara Malik, Adnan Shah Tipu, Marina Khan, Annie Zaidi, Usman Peerzada, and Javed Sheikh. The supporting cast will provide comedic elements as well as add weight to the various subplots relating to family and cultural traditions.
Filmed in beautiful locations such as London and Pakistan, the trailer reveals beautiful cinematography—from sunny cobblestone streets to green, vibrant getaways—showing a cosmopolitan style with a healthy dose of South Asian colour. Highlights from the trailer include a high-spirited runaway bride scene, a Montgolfier balloon moment, and a boat ride replete with a starry night sky. Love Guru hints at being more than a comedy, though.
The moody soundtrack and emotional dialogue— “I wish I’d met you earlier,” Saeed tells Khan; “Some things are better left unsaid,” she replies—alludes to the emotional stakes that lie ahead.
With Eidul Azha celebrations expected to begin in mid-June 2025 (based on moon sighting), distributors have locked in a nationwide release date of Friday 14 June, ensuring the film opens during the festive season.
