Faysal Quraishi’s reply to criticism on hosting Ramazan transmission

F

F or those long hours
between Sehri and Iftaar, Ramazan is not restricted to prayers only. It is also about entertainment tailored to suit this month.

During this time, a bevy of actors exchange their usual scripts for conversations that are pertinent to the holy month.

Among them are actors such as Danish Taimoor, Faysal Quraishi, Omer Shahzad, and Bilal Qureshi, who host such broadcasts. However, those who have seen these transmissions have “thoughts” on the matter. Audiences have questioned the nature of these broadcasts and why actors are hosting them in the first place.

But let’s be real. If we can accept game shows and talk shows across digital and broadcast mediums, we can certainly give actors a chance to speak about spirituality and tolerance. After all, celebrities wield enormous influence.

In a recent episode of his Ramazan broadcast, Faysal Quraishi responded to online trolls with a thoughtful and perfectly measured answer. He stated that we should approach the matter, first and foremost, by taking a deep breath.

Quraishi noted, “I often hear and read that people object to actors hosting Ramazan transmissions.”

He acknowledged that some have wondered whether actors like him were hosting these shows to teach the audience about religion and, if so, why they were doing it.

Addressing the criticism, Qur-aishi explained that the intention was not to teach, as he too, was still learning. “I always aim to learn from scholars. This is my fourth year hosting a Ramazan transmission, and the experience has been a journey of growth for me. Through it, I have come to better understand the purpose of life.”

Refreshingly honest, Quraishi further clarified that he has not tried to preach through his show.

It’s a reminder that even in the world of entertainment, there’s still room for thoughtful reflection. If politicians can be unruly while appearing on national television, why shouldn’t actors be allowed to host a spiritual programme? Food for thought.
