Koffee With Karan makes a comeback

T

he eighth season of Koffee with Karan has made a thrilling comeback on DisneyPlus Hotstar and we’re sold after watching the first trailer of the show.

It is the show that introduced what has now become a ‘rapid fire round’ which is a part of nearly every talk show, if not all. While it has been mimicked by shows in Pakistan and India, no one does it better than Karan Johar, who seems to have a good relationship with actors in Bollywood, whether they’ve appeared in a film he has produced, directed, or not.

He has also been a big champion of Fawad Khan and went to Dubai specially to watch The Legend of Maula Jatt.

Now to the eighth season of Koffee With Karan.

As has been a rule so far, Shah Rukh Khan is not opening the upcoming season. The Khan is busy with projects and might not make it to the season at all. However, given his strong bond with Karan Johar, you never know!

As for the new season, the preview tells us a great deal. Unlike past seasons when one guest appears after another, this one is going to be different.

Award-winning actors and partners off the screen, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh will appear together, holding hands as Johar introduces them as Bollywood Royalty. The famous rapid-fire round will also feature but the format has changed a bit. There is also a game included in the new season that will appear first. The rapid-fire will emerge later. Though both of the actors have appeared on the show in the past, they haven’t made an appearance together, especially after being married and doing three films together.

If the preview is anything to go by, Singh appears just as enchanted by his wife as he did prior to their nuptials while Deepika Padukone looks much more comfortable in the setup now than in the past. She seems to be as forthcoming as she can be on a TV show that’s as popular within Bollywood circles as it is outside of it.

By the time you read this, you might have seen the first episode. And yes, we are just as thrilled about their chemistry, which is off the charts.

But there is room for other snippets as well.

Kareena Kapoor-Khan, who once appeared on the show with cousin Ranbir Kapoor, and in a lighthearted manner spoke about his then-girlfriend Katrina Kaif, will make a comeback with Alia Bhatt-Kapoor. Both actors have accomplished quite a bit since their last outing on the show, and that too will come up. Alia will also address the question of becoming a Kapoor from being a Bhatt (she is the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt) and it looks like loads of fun.

However, another guest, Ajay Devgn, who is also scheduled to appear this season, will not accompany his wife and actor par excellence, Kajol, which could put rumors of an imminent divorce after more than 20 years of marriage to rest. It has been said that the two are not together after reports of infidelity on Ajay Devgn’s part became public. The latter, however, will appear on the show with director Rohit Shetty. He’s a major box office success who tends to make most of his films with Ajay Devgn. However, those collaborative films, often part of a franchise, are as mindless as each sequel. They include terrible films such as the Golmaal franchise which just doesn’t seem to end, Singham, and other solo projects including Bol Bachchan, and Sooryavanshi.

Will it be a therapy session for the two since Shetty has also worked with Ranveer Singh (on more than one occasion) and once with Shah Rukh Khan? Will it be as boring and benign as their collective films? Our bet is the first two episodes will be worth watching and the third one will be something you put on while doing other things like making your bed or cleaning your computer and deleting temporary files.
