Creative Director Shahram Swati discusses the brand’s aesthetic and future plans with Instep.

Bag yourself a Macour!

Macour started with just 20,000 rupees and random fabrics from a market in Lahore,” says Shahram Swati, a recent gra-duate of Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design. The label is Swati’s brainchild, but to leave it at that would be an understatement.

Macour is an online brand, and the products are signature purses and totes.

The Macour ‘signature’ is the Banana Bag, which is definitely their most eye-catching item.

As the name suggests, the bag is shaped like the fruit, but with room to carry essentials around.

When it comes to everyday fashion, says Swati, “it’s crucial to find accessories that seamlessly blend style and functionality.

That’s where the Banana Bag comes into play.”

The brand started because Swati sees a gap in the market, where there is demand for high-fashion accessories such as bags and shoes, but not enough supply of the same in terms of either quality of material, or quality of design.

“Macour aims to serve the modern woman, who cares about accessorizing well, but doesn’t have enough options available in the local market,” he says.

“Often, they have to order accessories from abroad, and that’s the audience I want to cater to, not just within Pakistan, but extending to include a wider South Asian market too.”

Apart from the Banana Bag, the label also offers a C-shaped bag, and totes, which Swati underscores all follow a, “high fashion school of thought.”

The young designer, who started working on his brand while in seventh semester at PIFD, shot on campus roof-tops, hopes to see it grow internationally, as a luxury brand.

Swati shares that he has poured everything into establishing and running Macour, and says he’s working towards a physical store, set to launch in the next year.
