inger, songwriter, actor and host, Umair Jaswal is finally living up to the promise he made years ago by releasing a solo album.

According to a press statement, the upcoming album from Umair Jaswal is titled Dance Kerain Saari Raat and will release in two parts. Volume 1 will release this month (quite possibly as you’re reading this) with Volume 2 scheduled to release on the joyous occasion of Eid ul Fitr.

Noted a press statement, “The album is comprised of a mix of 13 songs, with a song for every mood and emotion.”

Elaborating on what the album will be like, Umair Jaswal said: “Through these songs, my musical sensibilities have taken on a whole new direction, enabling me to deconstruct my preconceived notions, and open up to limitless creative possibilities.

“It’s been a highly rewarding experience collaborating with Ahsan Pervaiz, an absolute genius. It was like two mad scientists working in a lab willing to push the boundaries with each track.”

Umair further noted, “This album is very close to my heart; it’s been quite a transformative journey and now I’m ready to share this raw, uncut side of my personality with the world. I will be embarking on a 10-show album launch tour across Pakistan (the dates will be revealed soon). I can’t wait to perform for my fans and for you all to enjoy my upcoming album, Dance Kerain Saari Raat.”

When Umair Jaswal - along with his then-group Qayaas - appeared with Atif Aslam on the fifth season of Coke Studio for the song ‘Charkha Nolakha’, no one could’ve predicted what would follow. The song took off as did the name of Umair Jaswal. Atif, of course, appealed to his fans who amount to an unknown figure across galaxies but it also allowed Atif Aslam’s fans to tap into Qayaas.

Known for its brand of alternative rock, Qayaas slowly but surely began to disintegrate as a group but Umair Jaswal’s solo career took off. He appeared on the sixth season of Coke Studio as a solo name under the aegis of Rohail Hyatt as producer. Even as producers changed on music’s biggest series, Umair Jaswal continued to appear multiple times, working with the likes of Strings and even after the return of Rohail Hyatt in season 13.

The popularity opened other doors as well. Umair Jaswal went onto make his acting debut in cinema via Yalghaar and television debut by starring in the period drama by Sarmad Khoosat, with an all-star cast called Mor Mahal.

Between live shows, and appearances on prominent shows including Velo Sound Station (2020), he was also a significant part of a documentary series called Raahi, which he wrote, produced and hosted as he went across different landscapes within Pakistan and dropped music with it as well.

In other recent news, Umair Jaswal will essay the role of former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar in an upcoming film called Rawalpindi Express.

Amidst this success, for years though, Umair Jaswal had been promising to release a new album. The idea was shared by him somewhere in 2017 but has finally taken shape for release in 2023.

Song titles like ‘Mamacita’, ‘Aunty let me go’ and ‘Disco Diljala’ will be conversation starters, noted the press release, and the album will offer music with something for everyone.

Whether the album flies or not, it is good to see prominent artists such as Jimmy Khan, Haniya Aslam and now Umair Jaswal dropping a singular body of work. There’s just something very appealing about an LP or EP. As for Umair Jaswal, his music is heading for Spotify, YouTube and other music platforms, so finding the record won’t be hard. Will we see some sober songs, which offer a reflective side of Umair Jaswal or bouncy dance-y tracks of value is the real test.
