The recently concluded American Music Awards (AMAs) were a great platform for people to pick up on trends that are going to rule the US. For instance, anti-Trump rhetoric is slowly seeping into American entertainment and the AMAs were a perfect example of that, with Green Day’s anti-Trump rant and Gigi Hadid’s impersonation of Melania Trump. Some celebrities chose to take the opportunity to talk about mental health awareness. Of course, fashion and beauty trends were also discussed and we are glad to see some noticeable beauty trends emerge amid this political brouhaha as well. Here, we round up some of the beauties who made a statement on stage with their work as well as their looks.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez made a strong comeback with her powerful speech at winning the award for favorite female pop/rock artist. The artist had taken a break from the limelight to work on her health, as she had been diagnosed with Lupus, of which depression and panic attacks are also side effects, and she was refreshingly honest when she came to the stage. Since it was a big night for the artist, she sported one of the best red carpet beauty looks of the evening. The star chose soft and subtle nude shades to highlight her face, along with a glossy nude lip that went really well with her glowing luminous skin. She tucked her dark locks back into a sleek ponytail, which was another hot favourite hairstyle for many others on the red carpet as well.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen will be remembered for a lot of things she did at the AMAs. First, her comment on the ‘interesting’ election season got censored from the televised broadcast. Second, she suffereda wardrobe malfunction because of her dress, which sported a slit so high, it reached her chest and was held together by safety pins (which might be another political statement, keeping in mind the safety pin protest that has also started in America.) Third, she showed up with a glowing mane of honey soaked highlights, flat-ironed to perfection. Her skin also became a talking point for many as celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips did wonders. She worked on highlighting Teigen’s defining areas such as the center of the forehead and the bridge of the nose, making her skin look just as fierce as her hair.

Gigi Hadid

The host of the evening Gigi Hadid received a lot of backlash over her hilarious Melania Trump impersonation, where she made fun of the future first lady’s allegedly plagiarized speech. While many spectators cited racism as one of her offenses (we don’t agree) she did claim praises for her choice to experiment with different looks for the entirety of the show. For her red carpet ensemble, a white lace Roberto Cavalli dress, Hadid chose to slick her hair back, with soft cascading waves, sporting a light cherry lip.
