‘Bad Blood’ star Taylor Swift left out while Beyonce and Adele lead the race with eleven and seven nods respectively

Though the Academy Awards continue with their prejudiced ways, the MTV Video Music Awards, easily one of global music’s biggest nights, often do the opposite. Excluding pop queen Taylor Swift, who is living in the headlines these days because of her discord with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian as well as her relationship with Brit star Tom Hiddleston (Avengers, Thor, The Night Manager), the VMAs nomination list has given Queen Beyonce Knowles a career-best 11 nods for her Lemonade visuals. Following closely behind Beyonce is Brit superstar Adele with eight nods including seven for her hit track, ‘Hello’.

Beyonce’s Lemonade, a conceptual music drama and a "visual" album, came attached with a one-hour show which aired on HBO. The record featured guest musicians like Jack White, Kendrick Lamar and addressed in particular the Black lives Matter movement. So, all the acclaim following Queen Bey is justified.

Both Beyonce and Adele will be competing for the top prize, Video of the Year for the video(s) of ‘Formation’ and ‘Hello’ respectively.

Though Taylor Swift swept the VMAs last year, she has been snubbed this year while rival Kanye West has picked up nominations for his controversial and creepy video of ‘Famous’. Other nominees worth voting for include Tame Impala and Coldplay.

The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Sunday, August 28 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
