The era of flaunting your LVs and your Birkins is slowly but surely coming to an end. Fashionistas are no longer content with handbags and purses that every other person around them will be carrying as well (whether real or fake!). The truly style conscious are now investing in quirky and individualistic arm candy that not only turns heads but costs a fraction of what its designer counterparts are tagged at. Instep rounds up some of the most statement-making pieces we’ve come across recently.

Meesha Shafi

Meesha’s Mahgul birdcage bag is just what the red carpet at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week (PSFW) ordered. While it’s not the sort of practical bag you can use every day, it’s perfect for making an edgy statement at a fashion week. The model wisely keeps her overall look minimal to let the unique accessory do all the talking.

Maheen Kardar Ali

Another fun bag spotted at PSFW was the clock clutch worn by designer Maheen Kardar. Inspired by Charlotte Olympia’s luxury ‘Time Piece’ design, the local version is not only affordable but easily accessible as well.

Haiya Bokhari

‘Stylista’ Haiya Bokhari elevates her outfit from being just another version of the popular monochrome look to super-fun with the neon Nickie Nina clutch that she sported at PSFW. The geometric bag is great way to inject a pop of colour into your look.

Sunita Marshall

Sunita’s bespoke tote by Rema is an everyday bag that is practical yet unique. The handcrafted leather bags from the label’s Art of Precious Details series feature an imprint of your favourite photograph and have many celebrity takers, including Mehreen Syed, Sadad Fawad Khan and Mawra Hocane. Sunita’s bag has a picture of her adorable daughter on it.

Sadaf Zarrar

Blogger Sadaf Zarrar’s quirky and colourful clutch is an ode to the pop-art movement that has had a major impact on fashion across the globe. This high-street version, available at Lahore-based store Almas, is a bargain and is sure to add a dose of fun to any outfit.
