Open letter to Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani
ISLAMABAD: Dear Mr Chairman, Since the inception of your political career which started in the late 70’s when you were elected president of the People’s Student Federation in Karachi University till date, when you hold one of the highest constitutional offices in the country, it has always been about playing by the rules. It is for this reason that instead of reporting to the police I want to bring to your notice the rash behavior of one of your senators whose name I do not know.
What I do know is that on February 16 at 12:00pm a vehicle bearing an Islamabad number plate RV-333, nearly overran me on the Expressway while driving from Rawalpindi to Islamabad but I managed to survive. As I heard loud honking and lights flashing, I glance at the rear view mirror to see whether it was a vehicle providing emergency service or from security detail.
It was neither. Rather it appeared to be someone driving recklessly with Senator RV-333 showing on the licence plate. Anyway, I glanced to the left but there was no space to turn and I carried on. This was when I witnessed menacing and threatening behaviour of the senator’s vehicle and I knew I had to move. With great difficulty while using the left indicator, I squeezed on to the left lane causing great annoyance to the vehicles already on that lane. This was a slow process but the senator’s vehicle was impatient even when space was being given for it to pass. Quickly the senator’s vehicle zoomed past breaking all speed limits.
I rest my case Mr chairman and hope that you will play by the rules once again in the case of this woman journalist.
Warm regards,
Mariana Baabar
