Cotton registered shortfall of 33.41pc as season ends

MULTAN: The cottonseed (Phutti) arrival end season statistics show overall shortfall of 33.41 per cent, said PCGA chairman Shahzad Ali Khan.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he said that Phutti equivalent to over 9,612,711 bales had reached ginneries across Pakistan as of January 31, showing a decrease of 33.41 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year when ginneries received 14,435,202 bales. He said that the Punjab recorded highest shortfall of 44.21 per cent and Sindh 4.58 per cent. He said that the textile mills had bought 8,032,410 bales while the exporters bought 358,418 bales. The total bales sold out so far were calculated at 8,390,828 bales, he added.
He said that Multan received 128,079 bales (73.85 per cent less), Lodhran 96,237 bales (72.99 per cent less), Khanewal 400,187 bales (58.16 per cent less), Muzaffargarh 259,710 bales (46.39 per cent less), Dera Ghazi Khan 291,105 bales (40.6 per cent less), Rajanpur 404,538 bales (28.52 per cent decrease), Layyah 251,484 bales (38.89 per cent less), Vehari 307,243 bales (60.81 per cent less), Sahiwal 251,292 bales (56.17 per cent less), Pakpattan 66,478 bales (59.85 per cent less), Okara 22,148 bales (56.84 per cent less), Kasur 11,376 bales (46.47 per cent less), Toba Tek Singh 134,422 bales, Faisalabad 51,923 bales, Jhang 42,661 bales, Mianwali 333,409 bales, Bhakkar 81,759 bales, Sargodha 11,600 bales, Rahimyar Khan 1,105,002 bales (19.56 per cent less), Bahawalpur 725,999 bales and Bahawalnagar 880,340 bales.
In Sindh: Hyderabad received 250,607 bales (5.56 per cent less), Mirpur Khas 273,913 bales (31.28 per cent less), Sangarh 1,340,179 bales (10.62 per cent decrease), Nawabshah 312,622 bales, Naushero Feroze 283,084 bales, Khairpur 270,431 bales, Ghotki 318,093 bales, Sukkur 448,068 bales, Dadu 36,328 bales, Jamshoro 133,000 bales and Badin 31,645 bales while Baluchistan received 57,045 bales. Total 167 ginning factories are operational in the country, including 128 in Punjab and 39 in Sindh.
