Soil scientist Dr Arshad passes away

FAISALABAD: Renowned soil scientist and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof Dr M Arshad (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz) died of cardiac arrest at Peoples Colony here on Saturday.
He was 59. Scores of people from different walks of life attended his funeral prayers at Technical Mosque. UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan termed the demise a great loss to agriculture sector. He said that Dr Arshad’s services for agricultural sector, education and research would be remembered forever. Dr Arshad got the PhD in Soil Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of California, USA. He was one of the pioneers who introduced the concept of utilizing micro-bially produced plant growth regulators for the betterment of crop production. He was declared the best scientist in agriculture in 2001 by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Islamabad. Dr Arshad wrote more than 100 research articles in international journals.
