167 petitions filed against LG results

BAHAWALPUR: Some 167 petitions were filed against results of local government elections in the Election Tribunal for Bahawalpur region.
According to the regional election office, presiding officer of Bahawalpur regional election tribunal Chaudhry Abdul Hafeez has started the hearing of the petitions.
January 19th was the last date for the filing of the petitions. However, filing of nomination papers for the reserve seats of Bahawalpur Municipal Corporation, District Councils and Municipal Committees and Town Committees of Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan and Bahawalnagar districts were completed on Thursday.
SECURITY TIGHTENED AT IUB: Police beefed up security outside the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) campuses keeping in view the terror attack on Bacha Khan University.
Police and Elite Force personnel took the control of entrance of Abbasia Campus and searched the visitors.
According to the IUB spokesman, the varsity administration has taken some new security steps.
10 SUSPECTS HELD: City police circle Thursday detained ten suspects during the search operation.
According to DSP City Circle Shafqat Atta Nadeem, the search operation was launched in different areas of Bahawalpur in the wake of beefed up security steps after the Bacha Khan varsity attack. However, he said the detained people would be released after their proper investigation.
