LONDON: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Wajid Shamsul Hasan has received the formal summon sent by the Abbottabad Commission’s chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal.
According to sources the summon was sent over to Pakistan High Commission by Foreign Office in the official dispatch and it was received here at Pakistan High Commission on Wednesday evening. It has been learnt that Hasan has been asked to appear before the Commission in the first week of January.
But Wajid Shamsul Hasan has yet to make up his mind whether he will appear before the Commission. The Commission wants to quiz the High Commissioner on his comments to the media that Pakistani leadership was aware of the May 2 Abbottabad Operation that killed Osama Bin Laden.
Hasan had claimed in interviews with BBC, CNN and NDTV that Pakistan and its agencies knew at least 8-10 days before the operation where Osama was hiding and had even trapped him into coming to Abbottabad.
When the commission first announced that Hasan will be called over, Hasan had maintained that he could only be summoned by commission through the Foreign Office and not directly by the Commission. Now the summon has come from the Foreign Office.
Hasan has, on record, stated that he would appear before the Abbottabad Commission when he gets an official summon. A spokesman at the High Commission said that the High Commissioner was not available to confirm whether — and when — he will be going to Pakistan to appear before the Abbottabad Commission.
