Rs1.5b resort lake, dam to be built

BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Saqib Zafar Saturday said a resort lake and a dam would be constructed on the bank of River Sutlej at a cost of Rs 1.5 billion near Bahawalpur.

Chairing a meeting of the project, the Commissioner said a survey in this regard has been completed. He said the project will be backed by the World Bank and the government of Punjab.

The Commissioner said the lake would be 13-km long and it would take 1,160 acres land of district Lodhran and 640 acres of Bahawalpur district.

The meeting was also attended by the WB representative, who told the participants that next month the survey report would be handed over to Nespak.

FUNCTION HONOURS STUDENT: The Government Sadiq Dane Model School, Bahawalpur arranged a special function acknowledging debating abilities of its grade-7 student Syed Abdullah Tanseer. Tanseer has achieved the second position in the Punjab province in the Punjab Chief Minister’s debating contest. PML-N MNA Sabeeha Nazir was the guest of honour on the occasion. Tanseer was given Rs 5,000 cash prize as well.

HOUSE LOOTED: The house of PTI leader Ejaz Mehmood Awaisi was looted on Saturday. Some 15 robbers stormed the house of Awaisi and held up the family members. The bandits took away cash and gold ornaments.

The robbers also stormed the houses of his brothers Sajjad Mehmood Awaisi and Nadeem Awaisi. Awaisi told reporters that the robbers remained in the house for six hours and during this time they ate meal and took tea and discussed country’s political situation.

ROBBERS KILL MAN: A man was shot dead by robbers on Saturday.

Muzamil Hussain of Chak-126 Murad was shot dead for offering resistance to robbers. Dacoits intercepted Muzamil in PS Dharanwala limits and snatched his motorcycle. They shot him dead when he resisted the dacoity bid.
