A picnic that wasn’t

July 30, 2021

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a good picnic point in Islamabad, especially during national holidays. Last week, my sister came to visit us from Lahore so that we could spend some quality time and visit famous places. The visit to Murree was cancelled because of the traffic mess in which a number of vehicles which were going to hill stations were stuck. Many visitors had to wait for close to 12 hours to return to Islamabad. We finally decided to visit the Khanpur Dam which is situated on the other side of the Margalla Hills. However, our experience wasn’t good. The road to the dam is dilapidated. And since many people were going to visit the dam, the road was jam packed. Since there was no way we could reach anywhere near the dam, we decided to return to Islamabad.

The rush was due to Eid holidays, but realistically speaking, people mostly visit such places only during holidays. There is a dire need to improve those roads that lead up to famous picnic spots.
