Police suspect Gulshan-e-Iqbal teenager killed for ‘honour’

Police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons over the mysterious death of a teenage girl hailing from Quetta in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood on Friday. Police suspect that the girl might have been killed for “honour”.

FIR No. 723/21 has been registered on behalf of the state at the Aziz Bhatti police station under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case has been registered against unidentified persons.

Investigations SSP Altaf Hussain said the girl had died under mysterious circumstances, adding that the family of the victim had changed their initial statement to the police.

He said that the family had earlier claimed that the girl had died after a stray bullet had hit her while she was on the roof of the house, adding that the family later told the police that she had committed suicide by shooting herself.

The officer said that the police have recovered an empty shell of a 9mm pistol from the roof. He added that the police have also found a firearm belonging to the victim’s brother at the house, with a spent 9mm shell, leading the police to suspect his involvement.

Police believe that the girl might have been killed in the name of honour, but nothing can be said with certainty until their investigation is completed.
