Swimming in sea banned until Sept 15

July 21, 2021

Karachi: Karachi Commissioner Navid Ahmed on Tuesday ordered a ban on bathing and swimming in the sea, imposing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code for a period of two months. The notification issued by his office said deputy commissioners have expressed apprehension that many people are likely to visit Karachi’s beaches during the Eid holidays, so drowning incidents are possible due to bathing and swimming in the sea during the monsoon season and high tides in the sea. The notification said that there are sufficient grounds to proceed under Section 144 to avoid any untoward event of drowning and to save precious lives, so exercising the powers under Section 144(6), delegated by the Sindh Home Department, the commissioner has ordered a complete ban on bathing.
