Farmers facing hardship in
selling sugarcane on fixed price in Sindh south: minister

MULTAN: Federal Minister for Food and National Security Malik Sikandar Hayat Bosan has said that the government is going to enact the Plant Breeder Rights Act in the next week. Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Monday, he said that the act would fully protect rights of the plant breeders.
He said that the Federal Cane Commissioner had served notices to the mills for not paying dues to the sugarcane farmers. He said that the sugarcane farmers in Sindh south were facing hardships in selling sugarcane on the fixed price of Rs 180 per 40kg.
Regarding local government politics and elections of Multan city mayor, district council chairman, Sikandar Bosan said that he would follow the party discipline in nomination of candidates.
To a question regarding delay in elections on LG special seats, Sikandar Bosan said that the Punjab Assembly would meet this week and positively finalise the procedure of elections.
Twelve independent union council chairmen and vice-chairmen also announced joining the PML-N at the press conference. They include UC-77 chairman Abdul Majeed Majid, vice-chairman Malik Mazhar Abbas, UC-76 chairman Syed Asghar Abbas Naqvi, vice-chairman Taj Muhammad Saeedi, UC-75 chairman Jehangir Abbas, UC-80 chairman Malik Arshad and vice-chairman Ramzan Olakh.
Crackdown on illegal housing societies

MULTAN: The Multan Development Authority has launched a crackdown on the illegal colonies and registered criminal cases against their owners.
Talking to newsmen here, MDA Additional Director Altaf Hussain said that 50 residential colonies were served notices on failing to fulfill the rules and regulations required for establishment of colonies. He said that 350 housing colonies were established in the jurisdiction of MDA and of them 39 were illegal and their entry gates and exit points had been demolished.
