Employees protest inside Mardan prison
MARDAN: Employees of the Mardan Central Prison on Monday staged a protest against superintendent inside the jail premises for reportedly depriving them of their medical and conveyance allowance.
The protesters said that medical and conveyance allowances had been slashed from their salaries at the behest of jail superintendent Shahjehan Khan. They accused the jail superintendent of deducting electricity bills from the salaries of the employees living in the prison’s barracks.
The protest continued for more than two hours. The prisoners and their relatives faced problems as the protesters forcibly stopped the visitors from meeting the inmates. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully after the superintendent and other officials ensured that their demands would be met.
