67 gangs busted in Okara in 2015

OKARA: The district police arrested 67 gangs of criminals and recovered booty and illegal arms from them in 2015.
It was said by DPO Faisal Rana while talking to media here on Sunday. The DPO said that 46 criminals involved in murder, dacoity and terrorism were killed while 5,738 proclaimed offenders, including murderers, were arrested in the year 2015. He said that 1,983 court absconders were arrested while 1,520 cases of possessing illegal arms were registered and 45 Kalashnikovs, 99 rifles, 205 guns, 1,066 revolvers/pistols, 114 carbines and 7,135 bullets were recovered from the accused persons. He told that 1,498 cases of narcotics were also registered and 7kg heroin, 430kg charas, 13kg opium and 28,087 bottles of wine were recovered from drug pushers and 145 distilleries were unearthed. He informed that 297 cases under Amplifier Act, 15 cases under Hateful Material Act, 24 cases under Wall Chalking Act and 1,498 cases of exhibition of arms were registered in 2015. He said that two blind murder cases were traced and criminals arrested while eight cases of murder and dacoity were traced and the criminals were sent to jail. The DPO told that 83 cases of murder, 139 attempt to murder, 129 highway robbery, 69 cases of dacoity, 187 cases of house breaking, 430 cases of cattle lifting, 155 cases of theft were recorded less than the last year.
BOOTLEGGER HELD WITH WINE: Cantt police on Sunday arrested a bootlegger and recovered 76 litres wine from him.
On a tip-off, the police raided a running distillery set up in a house in a village and unearthed it. The police also arrested Bakht Ali alias Sadar and recovered wine from him. The police have registered a case.
