PESHAWAR: The police formed teams to identify people who were seen chanting slogans in favour of the Taliban while carrying flags of the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ on the main University Road late Friday night.
A number of people, mostly Afghan refugees, on motorbikes and in cars were seen in videos that went viral on social media. The people seen in the video were chanting slogans in favour of Taliban on the main University Road near Hayatabad.
Some people were also seen carrying flags of the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’.
The people in the video were coming back after attending a funeral reportedly in Regi.
Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari told reporters that Peshawar Police were investigating the incident.
He said police all over the province had upgraded security following the developments across the border.
A senior police official said teams had been formed to identify the ones seen in the video who chanted slogans in favour of Taliban and carried the flags. He said the cops in Khyber district were also informed. The official said action would be taken after investigating the matter
