IGP asked to help end rising robberies in Peshawar village
PESHAWAR: The residents of Wadpaga on Wednesday expressed concern over the increasing number of thefts and robberies in the village and the helplessness of local police to arrest criminals.
Led by former nazim Syed Muzaffar Shah, the former nazims, councillors and students asked the chief minister and the inspector general of police (IGP) to hold the local police accountable for negligence.
They complained that the police did not arrest the criminals despite being provided proof in the form of the CCTV footage.
growing number of robberies, they said, had created unrest among the dwellers, asking the IGP to order an investigation as to why the local police were not taking action against the outlaws.
Syed Fakhar Imam said his father Syed Nawaz Ali Shah established a small shop after getting a loan from a bank. He said that two unidentified persons on a motorcycle looted his shop on June 12 at 3:50pm.
He said the robbers fired at his father when he resisted and fled away from the scene. A passerby child also suffered injuries, he added.
A case was registered, but the accused could not be brought to justice.
The criminals, he said, barged into the hujra of a civil judge for theft but no action was taken.
The elders demanded action against the local police for failing to check the rising robberies and arresting the criminals.
