PHF to announce names of 20 players for contracts today
KARACHI: The PHF will name 20 players on Wednesday (today) whom it is going to offer contracts in three different categories, ‘The News’ has learnt.
Informed sources in PHF confirmed that the names of 20 players and details related to their contracts would be announced in Lahore at a press conference.
The sources said that the A category players would get Rs50,000 per month, B category Rs40,000 and C category Rs30,000.
The players have been selected on the basis of their performance and fitness.
The sources mentioned that the contract policy has been adopted only for senior team players.
Meanwhile, the PHF has planned a series of 7-9 matches between Pakistan senior and junior teams so that both teams get some match practice before their international competitions.
Pakistan senior and junior teams have not participated in any international competitions since the outbreak of Covid-19.
The PHF is also trying to organise a four-nation tournament in Pakistan to bring back international hockey to the country. This will also give international experience to the senior and junior players. The lack of international match experience is considered the biggest weakness of both outfits.
Pakistan fell to 18th rank in the world hockey ranking released by FIH recently. It is the lowest ranking for Pakistan in its history.
