Cop arrested over graft charges in Kohat
KOHAT: A cop was arrested after registering a case against him for allegedly implicating two innocent citizens in a drug smuggling case and then taking bribes from them on Wednesday.
District Police Officer Sohail Khalid took swift action and suspended head-constable Dilawar Khan of Muhammad Riaz Shaheed Police Station and ordered a departmental inquiry against him.
The police said that the cop, along with a friend identified as Adnan, stopped Zohaibullah and Khurram Yaseen, residents of Kohat Development Authority Township, for checking.
They said that the head-constable and his friend tried to implicate the two citizens by fake recovery of drugs from their possession.
The accused put them in habeas corpus and allegedly received Rs9,500 as bribe for their release.
The citizens lodged a complaint with the DPO, who immediately suspended the cop and ordered a departmental investigation into the case.
A case was also registered against the cop at the Cantt Police Station under relevant clauses of law and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act 2017.
