Amna downs Farah in junior tennis
ISLAMABAD: Amna Ali Qayum got the better of Farah Shah Khan 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets in the second PTF Development Series Junior National Ranking Tennis Tournament here at the PTF Complex.
Amna was at ease as she managed a comfortable win courtesy of some exciting forehand and backhand shots. She never gave an opportunity to her opponent to settle down or to stage recovery.
The PTF has made special arrangements to observe ITF Covid-19 SOPs as no spectators were allowed to witness the matches as per government policy.
Meanwhile, Brigadier Zaheer Akhtar, DG- Army Sports Directorate, visited PTF Complex and held a detailed discussion with PTF management pertaining to tennis development in the country.
Infrastructure development, player development and NTC, JTI program (a specific program for APS schools was discussed), coaches education, the possibility of holding Army schools and colleges competition in PTF, holding of national ranking events and organization of the South Asian Games in Pakistan 2023 was also discussed in the meeting.
The gratitude of President PTF Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan was also conveyed to DG Army Sport. The DG assured all possible assistance and cooperation to the PTF for the promotion and development of tennis in Pakistan, with special emphasis on player development and coach education.
Results: Girls singles 18 and under semis: Amna Ali Qayum bt Farah Shah Khan 6-2, 6-2; Sheeza Sajid bt Saher Aleem 6-3, 6-0.
Boys Singles 16 and under second round: Ahmed Nael Qureshi bt Kamran Khan 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.
Boys doubles 16 and under first round: Abdul Hanan Khan/Asad Zaman bt Kashan Tariq/M. Hamza Aasim W/O; M. Talha Khan/Abdullah bt Zaeem Ghafoor/Mustansir Ali Khan 1-6, 6-1, 10-7; Ahmed Nael Qureshi/Shaeel Durab bt Uzair Khan/Kamran Khan 6-0, 6-2.
