Siraj shows concerns over deaths in custody
ISLAMABAD: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq has said the law and order situation is deteriorating day by day in the country, while the police and law enforcement agencies have completely failed to fulfill their responsibilities to protect the people.
In a statement issued on Monday, Siraj-ul-Haq said the death of a 16-year-old boy Hassan Khan in Islamabad Police’s custody and killing of Sardar Taj Muhammad Wazir in Bannu were the recent incidents that exposed the performances of the law enforcement agencies in KP and federal capital. He said the PTI used to make claims to bring reforms in ‘Thana culture’, while it was in the opposition, but nothing had happened yet, emphasising that the country could not go forward without ensuring the rule of law. He said the prevailing law could not do justice with the poor, while the powerful elite needed not obey the law.
Talking about the recent budget, the JI Ameer said the government on one side was holding talks with the IMF to get loan, while on the other side claiming to grow the country’s economy.
Siraj said he was afraid inflation would go uncontrollably high in coming days as the government had predicted increase in petroleum levy and set unrealistic tax revenue targets. He said the government needed to introduce good governance and focus on the welfare of common man.
