Income tax notice to dead person suspended

June 11, 2021

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday suspended the operations of income tax recovery notices issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to a man who died six years ago.

Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh passed the order on a petition by citizen Gulrez Rashid and sought a reply from the FBR by June 17. The petitioner pleaded that the FBR started issuing income tax recovery notices from June 30, 2019 to his father who had died on Nov 29, 2014. The counsel argued that the notices issued by the FBR were illegal and asked the court to set aside the FBR’s notices. Justice Sheikh suspended the tax recovery notices.
