PMA rejects PMC’s regulatory role

June 11, 2021

LAHORE:The Pakistan Medical Association (Centre) has claimed that Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) is not a regulatory body; it’s a commission under which the universities and colleges have been given self-regulatory role.

The PMA (Centre), in its emergency virtual central council meeting on Thursday, unanimously rejected PMC as its principal stand over dissolution of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) as the national level regulatory authority, governing medical and dental education in the country. The meeting chaired by PMA Centre President Dr Salma Aslam Kundi was attended by a large number of central councillors from all over Pakistan. The PMA Central Council meeting also unanimously rejected the PMC’s recent decision of initiating mandatory biometric and CNIC verification of each doctor in Pakistan. The council members criticised the PMC over announcing National Licensing Exam (NLE) for medical graduates and categorically rejected NLE. The members were of the view that there is no need for such exam after passing MBBS.
