PM, CM keen to provide best health services to people: Dr Yasmin Rashid

LAHORE:Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid chaired the 24th syndicate meeting of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University here on Thursday.

In the meeting, Dr Yasmin Rashid approved the decisions taken in the previous syndicate meetings. Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Additional Secretary Development Dr Asif Tufail, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Amir Zaman and other syndicate members attended the meeting.

The FJWU registrar presented the agenda items in the meeting. The health minister approved the agenda items of the 23rd syndicate meeting. Dr Ehtashamul Haq was appointed as project director of the under-construction Mother and Child Block at Ganga Ram Hospital. Approval was granted to purchase of machinery and other equipment for the hospital. A proposal to regularise the ad-hoc employees, vacancy for professor of haematology and upgrade of IT department was approved.

Approval for maintenance of air-conditioners, refrigerators and water coolers was granted. Approval was granted for fee structure of MS and MD programme. Dr Yasmin said Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar wanted to provide best quality healthcare services to people. The Sehat Sahulat Programme and the Mother and Child Program are reflections of the same vision.” The health minister said the Mother and Child Block would be completed in time. Work is underway at a fast pace and there is no scarcity of funds.

Minister reviews anti dengue progress: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid sought the names of the districts not submitting progress on dengue prevention activities in the Cabinet meeting on Dengue prevention at the Darbar Hall of the Civil Secretariat here on Thursday. Present on the occasion were Chief Secretary Punjab, Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Ms Sarah Aslam, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Mudassar Riaz, Secretary Health South Ajmal Bhatti whereas Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners joined via video link. Representatives of Police, DGPR, Civil Aviation, Livestock PHA, DHA, Rescue 1122, Higher Education, Special Branch, Local Government, Punjab Healthcare Commission and other departments attended the meeting.

Punjab Health Minister and Chief Secretary reviewed the measures on dengue control. Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department apprised the Minister of measures taken for the prevention and control of dengue. Concerned department shared their respective activities for Dengue prevention.

The Health Minister said, “Indoor surveillance has to be scaled up. Increase in dengue cases is alarming. We will have to control increasing number of cases. DG Health must present report about the THQs. Al Teaching Hospitals have dengue testing facility. The dengue test is performed on priority in all hospitals. Punjab Healthcare Commission must intensify dengue screening. There must be strict measures to control Dengue in red zone areas.

All institutions must share their reports with the Primary and Secondary healthcare Department. There must be targeted operations to control Dengue. CEOs and Civil administration must together to control Dengue. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners must personally monitor the dashboard. Dengue larva must be eliminated after identification of hotspots. SOPs must be implemented on recommendations of DEAG. I appeal people to keep their homes clean. Administration must remain alert all the time. Surveillance and larvacidal activities must be under special focus. With Corona Pandemic, we will need to be careful of Dengue as well.”

Chief Secretary said action will be taken against officials not showing negligence. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners are responsible for providing material and human resource for dengue prevention activities.

The Health Minister gave directions to Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners on Corona prevention and said facilities must be provided as Punjab has started vaccination of people between 50-59 years of age.”
