Pakistani zoos

June 11, 2021

It was so disappointing to learn about the death of a lion at the Karachi zoo. Zoo officials said that the lion died of a heart failure – which hints at the fact that the animal had fat deposits inside his heart. This also shows the negligence of the zoo staff who didn’t pay attention to the lion’s diet and physical activity.

Lions live in the wild. They are naturally trained to hunt their prey. In zoos, they’re kept in tiny enclosures. How is this possible for a caged lion to have a healthy life when he is not allowed to come out of his enclosure? Zoos in Pakistan don’t follow international standards. Also, the staff there isn’t trained to take care of wild animals in an efficient manner. The authorities concerned must train the staff so that officials can take care of all animals.
