Death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto marked
PESHAWAR: The eighth death anniversary of former prime minister and chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Benazir Bhutto was observed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas on Sunday.
In the provincial capital, an event was organised by the city and district organisations of the party wherein speakers urged Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to come forward, visit various districts to encourage workers and remove differences in order to reorganise the party at different levels.
The meeting was held with PPP leader Syed Ayub Shah in the chair. Other key speakers were district president Malik Tehmash Khan, city district president Zulfiqar Afghani, labour leader Shah Zulqarnain, People’s Lawyers Forum President Akbar Khan Advocate and Iqbal Mohmand.
The speakers paid tributes to Benazir Bhutto for the services she rendered for strengthening democracy and improvement of the country’s economy. They said several people of Bhutto family sacrificed their lives but they enabled the downtrodden segment of the society to raise voice for their rights.
Criticising the government for failure to arrest killers of Benazir Bhutto, the speakers said there were sufficient proofs against her killers but no action was taken against them.
Malik Tehmash urged workers to follow in the footsteps of party leaders and complete mission of the martyred leaders. He said the PPP was still the largest party in the country and existed in all parts of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Ayub Shah urged the party leadership to ensure implementation of democratic culture in the party and hold intra-party elections so that the workers could elect office-bearers of their choice.
Shah Zulqarnain said it was PPP that always served the working class, enabled the low-income families to earn livelihood and raise voice for their rights. He criticised the incumbent provincial government for sacking employees of Workers Welfare Board and other departments.
Zulfiqar Afghani urged Bilawal Bhutto to visit every province and meet office-bearers so that he could apprise himself of the problems being faced by workers due to internal differences.
NOWSHERA: PPP leaders and activists observed BB death anniversary here. Speaking on the occasion, former provincial minister Liaqat Shabab and others said that the party could not be subdued through undemocratic means.
They said that the Bhutto family had shed blood for the poor people rather than for their own interests. They said that Benazir Bhutto was killed by the anti-democratic forces as she had left no stone unturned for the development and stability of democratic system in the country.
BANNU: The eighth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was marked with great respect and honour. The political leaders including district president Haji Zafar Ali Khan, Taj Muhammad advocate, Safdar Ali Shah, Malik Pakhtunyar Khan, Akhtar Zaman and others attended the event.
Highlighting the services of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the speakers said that she was a bold and brave leader and never compromised on principles.
“She preferred to sacrifice her life for the poor people instead of bowing before the military dictator,” Zafar Ali Shah said.
KALAYA: The eighth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was observed in Orakzai Agency. Speaking at a gathering, PPP president for Orakzai chapter Muhammad Iqbal Hussain shed light on the sacrifices rendered by her for the poor and oppressed people of the country.
He said that Benazir Bhutto would always be remembered by the party activists and people.
PARACHINAR: The party leaders including Member National Assembly (MNA) Sajid Turi, general secretary Mirza Jehadi, president Hashmat Hussain, Turi-Bangash tribal elder Malik Siraj Hussain and activists marked the death anniversary.
They lauded the services rendered by Benazir Bhutto for the prosperity of the country and stability of democracy.
JAMRUD: People’s Youth Organisation (PYO) observed the death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in Jamrud Press Club.
Anwar Zeb, Tahir Abbas, Nawaz Afridi and others said that the services and sacrifices rendered by the Bhutto family could not be forgotten.
MIRANSHAH: PPP North Waziristan chapter marked the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto in Bannu. President Malik Ghulam Khan, Shams Dawar, Hashim Dawar, Shafqat Dawar, Malik Samiullah Khan and others attended the anniversary. Speaking on the occasion, the speakers lauded Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for her bravery.
