Tragedy in Multan

A horrific incident that occurred in Multan a few days back should serve as a wakeup call for the authorities who must take immediate action to help people deal with their financial challenges. In what can be called an act of sheer desperation, two parents murdered their children. The father of the children also died by suicide. The mother, who is now in police custody, said that abject poverty forced them to take this extreme step. It is unfortunate that there have been other similar cases as well where parents were forced to kill their own children. In some cases, the sole breadwinner of the family took his/her life as s/he was unable to make ends meet. It is extremely shameful that the state has failed to provide the basic facilities to people and help those who are in dire straits.
