Rawalpindi, Islamabad record wins in Chevron-SOS tournament
RAWALPINDI: The Chevron-SOS Inter-Village Cricket Tournament 2015 got off to an exciting start here at Ayub Park with Rawalpindi making short work of Quetta.
With 11 teams representing 11 cities of Pakistan, there was a series of exciting matches on the first day.
Brigadier (R) Zaman Nasrullah Khan Niazi, Director General, Army Heritage Foundation, inaugurated the tournament, which has been sponsored by Chevron Pakistan Lubricants Private Limited (CPLPL).
In the opening match of the day, SOS Lahore piled up 77 runs and then restricted SOS Karachi to 38 to win by an impressive 39-run margin.
SOS Rawalpindi outclassed SOS Quetta in all departments of the game as they amassed 85 — the highest total of the opening day — to beat their opponents by 57 runs.
Debutants SOS Muzaffarabad were unable to offer much resistance to SOS Islamabad and fell short of 44 runs while chasing 72.
Faisalabad edged SOS Sargodha in a thriller. Batting first, Faisalabad posted 46 runs and won the match by four runs. The match was decided on the last ball.
In the last match of the day, SOS Multan scored 72 runs and won it by 19 runs.
The tournament will conclude on December 26.
Sponsored by Chevron Pakistan, the tournament is being attended by 150 schoolchildren and staff from SOS Children’s Village Rawalpindi, SOS senior regional team, Chevron leadership and employees.
On December 25, the visiting teams will have a break and enjoy a fun-filled outing and then gear up for the semi-final and final matches to be held the next day.
The two conclusive matches and the prize distribution ceremony will be held on December 26.
Naeem Ur Rehman, Manager Direct Industrial Sales, Chevron Pakistan Lubricants, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
