Army, Navy sparkle in boxing tournament
KARACHI: Five boxers from Army and four from Navy qualified for the finals of the All-Pakistan Amir Khan Boxing tournament here at the Ustad Abdullah Baloch boxing gymnasium at Peoples Sports Complex on Saturday.
Three boxers from Balochistan, while two each from Sindh, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Gilgit Baltistan also booked their berths in the title clash which would be held on Monday (tomorrow). One pugilist each from WAPDA and Rangers also qualified.
England’s leading boxer Amir Khan, who is in Pakistan, will also witness the finals.
Sunday (today) will be the rest day in the event which had started on December 14.

In 49kg, Jehanzeb (Sindh Greens) bt Shehroz Kachi (Sindh Police) 3-0 and Daud Khan (Navy) bt Shoaib Murad (Rangers) 2-1.
In 52kg, Asif Raza (Navy) bt Faqir Mohammad (Rangers) 3-0 and Mohammad Asif (Balochistan) bt Mehroz Ali (PAF) 3-0.
In 56kg, Nadir Baloch (Rangers) bt Abdul Waheed (PAF) 3-0 and Shoaib Khan (Gilgit Baltistan) bt Faizan Butt (Sindh Greens) 2-1
In 60kg, Amir Khan (Navy) bt Daud Khan (KP) 2-1 and Kamran Khan (Army) bt Mohammad Arshad (Punjab) 3-0.
In 64kg, Suleman Baloch (Army) bt Shahid Afridi (Sindh Greens) 3-0 and Adnan Hasan (PAF) bt Agha Mohammad (Balochistan) 3-0.
In 69kg, Amir Khan (WAPDA) bt Mohammad Amjad (PAF) TKO in the first round and Abdur Rauf (Army) bt Mehboob Shah (Balochistan) 3-0.
In 75kg, Faisal Khan (Balochistan) bt Mohammad Imran (Army) 3-0 and Tanveer Ahmad (Navy) bt Afzal Khan (Gilgit Baltistan) 3-0.
In 81kg, Asmatullah (Balochistan) bt Naeem Khan (PAF) 2-1 and Awais Ali Khan (Army) bt Wali Khan (Sindh Greens) 2-1.
In 91kg, Azhar (Gilgit) bt Majid Ali (Navy) TKO in the second round and Mirza Azam (PAF) bt Imran Shah (Rangers) 2-1.
In 91kg, Yasir Jamil (Sindh Whites) knocked out Ikramullah (FATA) and Mohammad Shehbaz (Army) knocked out Hafeezullah (Gilgit Baltistan) in the first round, respectively.
