PHC summons HEC official
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday summoned the project director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for noncompliance with the court order about issuance of PhD scholarship funds to the student of Agriculture University Peshawar.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Rohul Amin Khan issued the contempt of court notice to HEC Project Director Saima Noreen, directing her to appear before the court on the next hearing.
FM Sabir, a standing counsel representing the HEC, submitted reply on behalf of the commission. He submitted that it was a contempt of court case and the project director should personally appear and explain her position in the case as the court summoned her in the petition. The court was hearing contempt of court petition filed by a student Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan against the Agriculture University, Peshawar, HEC and project director HEC Saima Noreen, in which he claimed that despite the court’s order the HEC was not providing funds for his scholarship.
Essa Khan appeared for the university and submitted that the university was not opposing issuance of the scholarship funds to the student. He said that it was the HEC that was supposed to issue the funds to the student.
