‘Sukkur NAB received 3,721 complaints in 10 months’
NAWABSHAH: The Director-General of the National Accountability Bureau, Regional Office of Sukkur, Muhammad Altaf Bawani, has said that the NAB regional office received 3,721 complaints during the last 10 months out of which 253 complaints were verified.
He was addressing district officials at the Circuit House.
He said that investigation in 11 complaints had been conducted while 32 cases were under the process of inquiry. The director-general said that trials in 32 references were being held and one case was sent for reference. He said that in one reference the accused was given imprisonment of 10 years with a fine of Rs19 million.
Muhammad Altaf Bawani said that the role of the general public was important in countries where there was no corruption but the conditions in our country were different where corruption had become a disease and the corrupt had become respectable. He said that this culture required to be changed.
He said that NAB was formed to eradicate corruption, and the media, civil society and youth had to play their respective roles for the purpose.
The director-general said that NAB and HEC had signed an agreement to provide training to the youths to combat corruption.
He clearly said that the complainants involved in submitting fake complaints would also face strict action. He said that 110 investigation officers would start discharging their duties from May 2016 after completing training at the Police Training College in Sihala. The meeting was also attended by the Additional Commissioner, Pervez Ahmed Baloch, the Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Nawaz Soho, the Director of Sukkur NAB, Fayaz Ahmed Qureshi, Additional Director Shahzad Imtiaz Ahmed, ADC Khursheed Alam and Director Information Muhammad Mossa Gondal.
