Handicrafts put on display in Haripur

HARIPUR: An exhibition of handicrafts was organised here on Monday to showcase and promote products of home-based workers.Pakistan Hoslamand Khwateen Network (PHKN), a non-governmental organization had arranged the expo.
Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Khan inaugurated the exhibition. Dr Zakeem Khan Wazir, medical superintendent District Headquarters Hospital, Haripur, was also present.Artisans and businesswomen from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa put on display handicrafts, stitch works, woolen shawls, bed sheets and glasswork.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Tasleem Khan said that the district administration would extend full support to the positive activities aiming to empower women and improve their economic condition. He said that there was no dearth of talent in the country that has produced women who had excelled in different fields.
The official urged the woman artisans to work hard and market their products for better living as their products have potential to compete internationally.He lauded the efforts of PHKN and other artisans for the exhibition. He also visited the stalls and appreciated the spirit and work of local entrepreneurs.
Irum Fatima, executive director PHKN, said that the purpose of event was to promote local handicrafts. She also praised the efforts of Sarhad Rural Support Programme in imparting training to the women workers.Later, awards were given to the participants of exhibition.
