Driver arrested in murder case of Mardan varsity official

MARDAN: The police have arrested a driver of the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan for his alleged involvement in the recent murder of finance director of the varsity, sources said on Sunday. They added that the driver identified as Wajid, a resident of Pohan Colony, had been arrested a few days ago, but this development was kept secret.
When contacted, Mohammad Ashfaq Khan, Station House Officer of the Sheikh Maltoon Town Police Station confirmed the arrest of the driver. He said driver Wajid was arrested on the basis of the mobile phone data of the deceased official Mohammad Tariq.
On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen killed Mohammad Tariq, finance director at the Abdul Wali Khan University, and dumped his body at a deserted place in Sector H in the posh Sheikh Maltoon Town.
The local people informed the police after spotting the body. The cops took the body to the Mardan Medical Complex for postmortem examination.The sources added that Mohammad Tariq had been shot with five bullets in the head and other parts of the body. Mohammad Tariq, who belonged to Sakhakot in Malakand district, left the university campus on Tuesdayat11am and his body was later found dumped in Sheikh Maltoon Town. He was currently living at Nasir Bagh in Peshawar. He had also served as deputy registrar of the Abdul Wali Khan University.
The Sheikh Maltoon Town Police Station registered a case against unknown accused on the complaint of Ashfaq Afzal, brother of the deceased.
