Banned outfit Sipah-e-Mohammad activist, target killers arrested in other raids

The police’s counter-terrorism department arrested on Friday a leader of banned outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT) who was currently working as a deputy general manager at the K-Electric.
In a statement, the CTD Sindh said acting on a tip-off, its team raided a house in a posh locality of the city and after some resistance, arrested Sayham Qamar, a HuT ameer and a deputy general manager at the city’s power utility.
The police said Qamar delivered anti-government and anti-constitution speeches at gathering with the residents of the locality and instigated them to join his organisation and work against the government. Qamar tried to recruit people working at educational institutions and multinational companies.
SMP activist held
The CTD said in raids conducted in the Central district, it arrested Munir Ahmed Gopand, an activist of banned outfit Sipah-e-Mohammad, and Usman Ghani alias Gutka, a target killer.
It added that Gopand was a member of the Sipah-e-Mohammad’s Khairpur wing and last year, he and his associates had attacked a procession of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, killing one person.
The CTD said Ghani was a member of target killing team and had confessed to murdering Munir Burger Wala, Raees Murgi Wala and a rickshaw driver in different areas of the city. He was wanted by the Soldier Bazaar police in a murder case.
The department said the HuT leader and the other two men were found in possession of two 30-bore pistols and hate literature.
Target killers held
SSP East Jawed Jiskani said police had arrested two target killers and another criminal following two separate encounters in Mobina Town and Sharea Faisal police remits.
He added that two target killers, Muhammad Sarfraz and Touqeer, were arrested in an injured condition following a shootout in Mobina Town. They were found in possession of pistols. Both men were wanted in extortion and other criminal cases by different police stations of the East district. Besides, they were also involved in many killings.
The SSP said they had killed a scrap dealer, Syed Aijaz Hussain Shah, and several others for their refusal to pay them extortion money. The Sharea Faisal police while a service road near City Bakery saw two men mugging citizens. Following an encounter, they arrested one of them, Ghulam Husain, while his companion managed to escape. The arrested man was injured in the shootout and was found in possession of a pistol.
Rangers arrest
Rangers arrested three suspected criminals in a raid in Ittehad Town A Rangers spokesperson said weapons were seized from the three men’s possession.
