MARDAN: The bullet-riddled body of the director finance of the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan was found in Sheikh Maltoon Town here on Wednesday, police sources said.
They said the body of Mohammad Tariq was recovered from Sector-H of Sheikh Maltoon. He had been shot dead by unidentified persons.
The cops reached the scene after the local people spotted the body and informed the police. The body was shifted to the Mardan Medical Complex, the sources added.
The body was handed over to the heirs after medico-legal formalities, the sources said, adding, the motive behind the killing wasn’t known.
Sources in Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) said that Mohammad Tariq, who belonged to Sakhakot in Malakand district, left the university campus on Tuesday at 11am. He was currently living at Nasir Bagh in Peshawar.
The deceased had also served as deputy registrar of the Abdul Wali Khan University.Ashfaq Afzal, brother of the deceased, told the Sheikh Maltoon Town Police Station that the cellphone of his brother was found switched off on Tuesday after 12 noon. He added that he was informed on Wednesday that the bullet-riddled body of Mohammad Tariq had been found in Sheikh Maltoon.
The police registered the case on the complaint of Ashfaq Afzal and started an investigation.Meanwhile, addressing the condolence meeting of university staff, AWKUM Vice-Chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali condemned the murder of Mohammad Tariq and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. He also eulogized the services of the deceased for the university.
