Journalist shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a local journalist at Hafizabad village near the Bypass Road here on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that Hafeezur Rehman, the owner of the weekly Nawa-i-Asia and correspondent of a private television channel, was going to his office from his village Ghari Mowaz Khan when three gunmen sprayed him with bullets near the Bypass. “He died on the spot while the assailants managed to escape,” a local person said.
The local people shifted his body to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat city. The police took the cell-phone of the deceased into custody and started an investigation after registering the case on the report of the deceased’s relatives against unknown accused.
The deceased, who was also the owner of the Star Cable Network in the area, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Ghari Mowaz Khan. He left behind four sons, a daughter.Meanwhile, the local journalists held a meeting to condemn the brutal killing of their colleague. They asked the government to arrest the killers.
