KARACHI: Shahram Changezi crashed out in the round of 88 but Mohammad Sajjad, Mohammad Asif and Abdul Sattar directly qualified for the round of 64 in the IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship 2015 being held in the Egyptian city of Hurgada.
According to the results, made available by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) here on Monday, Shahram fell at the first hurdle of the knockout phase.
Sajjad, Asif and Sattar will be starting their campaign in the do-or-die stage on Wednesday (tomorrow).
No matches will be played on Tuesday (today).
Omar Alajlani of Saudi Arabia brought about the exit of Shahram whom he defeated 4-2 with the frame scores of 86-25, 14-82, 56-73, 75-2, 71-48, 95-0.
Shahram showed his resilience by winning two frames on a trot after losing the first one.
The momentum was with him as he chalked up a break of 58 in the third frame to go 2-1 up. But his Saudi Arabian opponent got the better of him in the next three frames to win the match.
Pakistan’s hopes of bringing home the title now rest on the trio of Sajjad, Asif and Sattar, all of whom will be in action in the round of 64 matches on Wednesday (tomorrow).
In the morning session, Sajjad will be pitted against Ali Jalil Ali of Iraq, while Asif will be locking horns with Alex Taubman of Wales.
Later in the day debutant Sattar wil be engaged in a duel with Lukas Kleckers of Germany.
All the four Pakistani cueists succeeded in qualifying for knockout rounds by giving impressive performances in the preliminary rounds. Three of them, Sajjad, Asif and Sattar, directly reached the round of 64. Shahram, who fired a break of 122 while whacking Ahmed Saloomi of Yemen in straight frames in his last outing in the Group T, was unable to reproduce the same form in his round of 88 clash and found himself eliminated from the competition.
