GUJRANWALA: Electioneering for the local government elections has reached its peak in the district as the polling will be held on November 19.
The independent candidates have a strong position and they may give a tough time to the PML-N. The presence of the PTI in the elections may influence the voters of rural areas while the PML-N is still considered the strongest in urban areas. Those, who were denied tickets by the PML-N and the PTI, are contesting as independent candidates.
The independent candidates having electoral symbol of bucket are distributing small and big buckets among the people. The relatives of many heavyweights, including State Minister Usman Ibrahim, MPA Imran Khalid Butt, MPA Nasir Cheema and former MPA Tariq Gujjar, are involved in the electioneering. In Gujranwala, 1,807 polling stations and 4,933 polling booths have been set up for 166 union council seats while 1,639 polling staff have been deputed to conduct the polls.
